Attendance Matters at Simas
Having good attendance at school is critical to your child's progress and success at school. Our goal is to have 96% of students at school each day. We have incentives and rewards for students and classes who are coming to school every day. Each week the top primary and top upper grade class with the best attendance, gets extra recess. We will also have a weekly prize drawing for students who have had perfect attendance for the week! Classes can also receive additional rewards for meeting perfect attendance milestones such as having a dress up da for 20 days of perfect attendance for Trimester 2.
If your child is feeling under the weather, please let us know. If they are experiencing COVID like symptoms, we still require a negative test to return, but we are happy to help with that! Just give us a call. Please try to schedule appointments/vacations during minimum days or on days off. If you are having trouble getting your child to school, for whatever reason, please contact the Simas Office. We are here to help!
Parent Square
We will be transition to a new communication platform called Parent Square. Please read the attached letter and follow the steps to activate your account.
You should have received a message that asked you to set-up your account. Please follow the directions on the email/message to ensure you are fully set up and ready to receive our notifications. If you did not receive the message, please let contact Mrs. Fochetti.
You can use ParentSquare on any device. We highly recommend that you download the free mobile app for iOS or Android or use the desktop version at www.parentsquare.com. By downloading the app you can then set your preferences for messages such as email, text, or app notification. IF you do not download the app, all communications are typically sent to the email that is on file with the school.
Our goal is for every family to join ParentSquare and engage with our school community. We are excited for this new communication tool and all that it has to offer!

Dismissal News
To provide optimal safety, security and consistency for all students, any changes to your child's dismissal instructions will only be accepted until 12:00 p.m. each day. Exceptions will be made for extreme emergencies only. Please help us keep your child safe and secure by adhering to this policy.
Student Birthdays
We have many students with severe food allergies, therefore, we will NOT be allowing food snacks or goody bags to be brought to school for student birthdays. We recommend that you purchase your child’s favorite book and donate it to the class or the school library on your child’s behalf. Thank your for your cooperation in this matter.
Parent Volunteers & Chaperones
In order for parents to volunteer in the classroom or chaperone on a study trip, they must have completed the Volunteer Application process. This includes completing a Volunteer Registration Form. The process takes time to complete; in many cases 3-8 weeks, so if you are interested in becoming a volunteer or chaperone, please start the process as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the office at 585-3790.
Support Simas School Year Round
Simas participates in Boxtops for Education. Simply clip the boxtops off of products you already buy for your home. Have your child turn them into their classroom teacher. Each boxtop is worth $.10 for Simas School! How easy is that? Help our school shine!
Important Information for Simas School
It is greatly appreciated that parents abide by our "close campus" procedures. For your child's safety, parents are asked to check in to the office before going on campus, for any reason. Parents interested in visiting classrooms are required to make arrangements with the classroom teacher and principal before visiting. *The Dress and Grooming Regulations are listed and explained in our Student Code of Conduct, which was sent home on the first day of school. Just a friendly reminder about haircuts; mo-hawks, tails or unusual razor cuts are not allowed and do violate our dress and grooming policy. *Student handbooks, conduct code booklets and emergency cards will be sent home on the first day of school. Please review and return the required parent/student signature sheets as soon as possible. Conduct Code booklets (containing our district and school site rules and procedures) are available to parents at any time throughout the school year, as needed.

HESD Wellness Policy
It is vital that we as employees and parents of HESD understand and adhere to the HESD Wellness Policy. It specifically states “Schools, to the extent possible, will not use foods or beverages that do not meet nutritional standards”. In order to support our policy, as of October 1, 2009 we will no longer accept sweet treats for birthday snacks. Parents are still encouraged to celebrate student birthdays by offering an alternative to sweet treats such as a goody bag with pencils, erasers, crayons, etc. Another fun idea is to donate a hardback book to the library in honor of your student. However, if you bring an edible treat, any of the following items are acceptable: • Fresh Fruit • Bananas • Watermelon • Strawberries • Apples • Granola Bars • Applesauce • Yogurt • Raisins • Pretzels • Fresh Veggie • Cucumbers • Zucchini w/dip • Celery w/PB • Carrots w/dip
